England vs Italy tatics

Post by Lorrimor » Sun Feb 26, 2017 7:53 pm

So much discussion around the net about Italy's tactics against England in the six nations.

Fist off what they did was completely within the rules and working in that they only lost but 16 points.

Was it against the spirit of the game...yes. If your half backs can't pass the ball then they are only going to kick it more and more and you don't get the flowing running game that people like to watch.

To put it in football terms, you would not mind a non league team parking 10 players in defence if they were playing Chelsea in the FA cup so they did not get hammered as a one off , but would you want the same thing to happen week in week out when a team thinks they cannot beat the other team.

Italy were allowed to join the 5 (6) nations as they were the 6th best team in the Europe and joining would give the more money to build and improve. But they have not done this and if they are now employing tactics that don't even give them a chance of winning, along with other countries now above them in the rankings maybe its time for another team to replace them and have the oportunity to grow rugby in their country.
